It all started back in February of 2012.
Okay, Really it started back in 2000-
My Dad served an LDS mission to Scotland and met some really wonderful people. He kept in contact with them, and while I was growing up, they came out to visit us every couple of years.
They weren't just friends, but a huge part of our family. All of us kids couldn't WAIT until the next time they came to visit. They were very much involved in our lives. Mary helped teach me how to read, and with the help of her sister, Ishbel, I learned to spell Mississippi forward, AND Backwards!
In 2000, we were so very lucky to finally get to meet Gran, who came out to visit along with our favorite, Miss Mary. It was such a great time, one I will never forget. This was a life changing moment for me, I learned to knit from the best. Everyday after school those cold days, I would come home and Gran would gather me between her knees or at her side and teach me to knit.
Here we are finishing a pair of stockings that my mother's mother wasn't able to finish in this lifetime.
Gran could knit faster than your eyes can blink.
She could come up with patterns in her head and knit them out with ease faster than someone with an actual pattern.
I learned to knit the Scottish way.
I love it.
Even though it is different that the way my mom knits.
(stitches look a bit different..)
ANYWAY- I haven't knitted anything bigger than scarfs or dish clothes.
They are my favorite to make because of how quick they are and how many different patterns there are out there to try! And maybe because i was scared to try something else.
But All That Changed.
Fast forward 12 years....
I'm a young married young woment that likes to create.
I found out that one of my dear childhood friends,
was indeed having a child of her own.
I wanted to make something special
So I started early
(seeing how the baby was due in May)
It was a lot of work.
It went with me on many, many trips. Sat in my lap until my arms and legs were numb.
60 something hours later . . . .
(pretty good for a girl going to school, working and being a wife right?)
*It's finished*
My biggest knitting project yet! A Baby Blanket!
I discovered I liked knitting with big needles, and that keeping track of what row you are on is important, and also, I can make up patterns pretty good when I get lost.
I am so thankful for dear Gran,
for taking the time to teach me such a timeless gift.
